--March 22nd

The wind was still blowing this morning, but not quite as bad.  Brian and I went out for some kayaking to the north and Marisa went on a hike.  I ended up turning back after a mile or so as the winds were really starting to whip up.  I decided to instead hike a couple miles to an inland marsh I had seen on the drive in.  We mostly did hikes today due to the winds.

A zebra-tailed lizard I noosed (Callisaurus draconoides)

Brian found a dead Humboldt squid on the beach and we all checked that out. It was pretty cool to see one up close.  I wanted to check out the beak but it was gone.  The squid was partially eaten by scavengers, but its size was still apparent.  I’d love to see a live one someday.

We were camped on the beach in the background behind Brian.

Brian went out for more kayaking in the afternoon, but I was hesitant due to the wind.  I’m sort of a laid back kayaker, I don’t like having to think about the conditions that much and worry about flipping.

I got some photos of the ravens and coyotes around camp.

The evening was much nicer and we were able to have a fire and chill out without wind for a change.  It was a very laid back day and very relaxing.  The best part about this camp spot is the remoteness of it and the cool vibes we get from there.  Even in questionable weather, it is great!
